Zen and the Art of Donut Sustenance

I have learned in my travels that life is like a donut

I have learned in my travels that life is like a donut. Just three things are inevitable in life - Paradox, Change and Humour.

The donut is a paradox - That what it isn't (the hole) defines it as much as that what it is (the whole).

Leave a donut unattended and it always miraculously changes form. Guard a donut closely and watch it intensely, it still changes form. Yum!  No-thing stays the same for long no matter how we wish. Change is the natural result of our forever changing perception of “what is” from moment to moment (what donut?).

If one gets too serious, narrow and humourless, one’s mind comes to the conclusion that one’s own choice of “what is” is the only "right" donut for all. All the other donuts are evil. It is better to see the humour in such a stance in both this and the rest of life. This expanded awareness leads one full circle to the divine paradox that all choices are the "right" choice in life (a box of donuts).

If I am getting too wholy (and nutty too), I offer a Zen Fuddhist paradox as an alternative.

The Canadian Koan
If someone is alone in a forest, can the sound of just one Tim Horton Timbit™ being eaten be heard?

The perfection that she who does not go within goes without. What goes and is found within? The hole or the whole?

Sometimes things are best left as sacred. Where did you think the “O” in OOOOOOhhhhhhmmmmm comes from?

Meditating on a donut ------- OOOOOOOhhhhhhmmmmm

Sacrilegiously yours
