Planning "The Music" for Your Wedding in Victoria BC
What to consider when having Alison as your Harpist

  Ceremony Prelude

The prelude music is performed while friends and family are arriving and awaiting the ceremony. It's best to have a broad selection of tunes for all tastes - and you may request some special musical dedications for guests and family whom you wish to acknowledge.
  Ceremony Processional

The Bride often chooses the Processional music she wishes to accompany her "down the aisle". Some couples choose two musical selections: one for the Bridal Party (Bridesmaids) and a different one for the Bride herself.

  Ceremony Recessional

The Recessional is celebratory music for when the now married couple walk back up the aisle to receive the congratulations of family and guests at the service completion. This musical selection can also be made by either the Bridal Couple,
or Alison, who will make a suitable choice on your behalf.

 The Full Wedding Package

Have Alison perform her harp at your Ceremony, Cocktails, Dinner Reception and then seamlessly slip into her Recorded Music / DJ Service to finish the evening. Have one continuous thread of very flexible entertainment throughout your day that is both simple to organise and very economical. A complimentary Outdoor Ceremony Mic and a wired Reception speech mic are included in The Full Wedding Package.

  Alison's Availability

Alison is available to play for your wedding ceremony or reception in Victoria BC, Sooke, Sidney or Saanich on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Be sure to visit Alison's Your Victoria Event web page and please Contact Alison today for a no obligation discussion regarding your wedding wishes.

  Book Early

Music is a very important part of the planning for your marriage. Book Alison early as many weddings are booked with Alison 6-18 months in advance. So do not delay and be disappointed! Alison's Victoria Wedding Fees are available.

  Pachelbel's Canon

Pachelbel's Canon is by far the most popular choice for the Bride's Processional music. Alison's harping skill set combined with the fluidity of her arrangement of the Canon are well suited for when ceremonies unfold uniquely in the moment. Alison offers other Processional choices including the Bridal March. Listen to Alison's sensuous dual arrangement of:

  Signing the Register

Guests appreciate having a luxurious and pleasant musical interlude as they wait for the signing formalities to be completed and for the Bridal Couple to be announced as "Newly Weds ".

  Ceremony Duration

Alison's harping services specific to the ceremony last about an hour from the beginning of the Prelude to the end of the Recessional. Most marriage commissioners normally take a half hour for the formal ceremony itself. Some ceremonies may be longer for certain religions or when other dedicatory items (candle lighting, readings etc.) are included.

  Outdoor Ceremony Mic PA

Alison through Harpsound Audio offers an Outdoor Ceremony Microphone PA Service for larger outdoor wedding audiences and for locations with a lot of ambient road and city noise. Inner harbour and backyard venues often benefit from a gentle boost to the Marriage Commissioner's voice.

  Harpistry at the Reception

Alison's harp offers a number of advantages over using a string quartet or piano for Victoria
wedding reception
entertainment. Most notably a pleasant sounding and accessible repertoire plus a smaller space requirement or footprint as compared to a string quartet. The harp also offers greater portability throughout the wedding and superior sound distribution as amplified by Alison's own Harpsound Audio. A solo harpist makes an excellent lead-in for the dancing later in the reception. Alison provides recorded dance music/DJ in The Full Wedding Package.

  Elopements

Considering eloping? Intimate atmosphere in romantic settings with no unwanted intrusions, traditions or protocols to observe. Elope on a weekday and almost every location and supplier will be available. Eloping is very easy. A recent trend is for Bridal couples to elope having Alison, her harp and a photographer as the only guests and legal witnesses.

  Why Choose Alison?

Alison's elegant harpistry provides a gorgeous ambience and a beautiful sound for all your guests to hear. She has a large and diverse repertoire with over 20 hours of music memorised to play by ear at both your ceremony and reception. She brings a depth of professional experience as a musician to make the ambience of your wedding simply magical.

Alison, I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful addition to my ceremony. Although you and I never really got the chance to have more than a few words, I really appreciated that you took the time to stop me and introduce yourself. Also, your sound really was amazing in that room as you are an exceptional harpist. I wanted you to have this picture; it is one of my favourites from the whole day. I will absolutely recommend you in the future and wish you all the best. Thanks so much.

   More Feedback on Weddings

"We are still talking about the wedding day and how perfect it all was. Your beautiful music added such sweet elegance and was enjoyed by everyone. My husband said that while guests were waiting for us to arrive the sound of the fountain along with your music had a very beautiful effect under the trees. Another thing we appreciated about you was your attention to detail, organization and providing feedback in writing along the way. Knowing that you would arrive early and were paying attention to every little detail was very reassuring to us."

"Words cannot express our appreciation for the incredibly beautiful music you played during our wedding ceremony. It was a dream-come-true for us having your harp music playing during such an event in our lives."

"The music you played at the cocktail reception was so elegant and classy. You've obviously have had lots of experience with weddings, as you coordinated the timing of everything before, during and after the reception and ceremony, seamlessly and without rehearsal."

Top Ten Planning Tips For Weddings

Planning weddings can be both exciting and rewarding. Weddings can also be very stressful. As a wedding professional Alison has come to realise what makes a wedding a success, irrespective of budget or expense. Use her top ten tips as a starting point for your wedding planning...

1. Plan early. Start at least 8-10 months if your preferred wedding day is a Saturday in the summer or... choose another day or season to wed with a 3-6 month lead-in time. There is high competition for services and venues for Summer Saturday weddings. Be creative with your scheduling and get a wider selection of wedding professionals to hire.

2. Know your service providers. Referrals work well as the reputation of the service providers you choose is important. Avoid unpleasant surprises on your wedding day by selecting professional service providers with a depth of experience. Emailing works great but close the deal by telephone with a written agreement to follow.

3. Get it in writing. Your quoted prices should include all the details as agreed. Verbal agreements at weddings get lost in the excitement.

4. Be methodical. Keep copious notes and plan achievable goals in a weekly task list. Revise your overall action plan regularly as you progress. When feeling overwhelmed midway look back to see all your successes to date.

5. Know your desired outcomes. Be clear as to the outcomes you want and articulate them well. People cannot please you if you do not know what you want. Wedding professionals create magic if they know what “works” for you.

6. Your social rules apply. You set the social boundaries for your event – not etiquette nor obligation. Invite exactly the people you want to your wedding and no more. Social obligations dampen many a special day. Choose to be surrounded by people who love and care for you. Opt only for the conventions that have meaning for you and create your own significant moments that work even better for you

7. Prioritise your budget. It is very easy to spend large sums. There are so many wonderful choices available but many are secondary to your immediate wedding needs. Separate the “must haves” from the luxuries and your spending priorities become clearer. Do not go into to debt simply because of social obligation.

8. Tact. The bridal couple and their families should all enjoy the wedding and be proud of it. This means your being open to hear the expectations of those around you. If you disagree with their ideas, speak about it calmly and tactfully until an understanding is reached as to what will be in both yours and their interests. See Tip #6 if there is no agreement.

9. Confirmations. Follow up with a phone call or email 2-4 weeks prior with your service providers and confirm your arrangements, provide any additional instructions, and reiterate the wedding schedule and your desired outcomes. It will reassure you and assists the professionals in understanding your expectations. Weddings never goes 100% to plan – the professional providers know this and as long as they know your desired outcomes they make weddings flow seamlessly.

10. Relax and enjoy! Choose a strong Master of Ceremonies for the day that you trust and allow the M/C to liaise with all the wedding professionals for all that day. A well briefed M/C will allow you to enjoy your wedding for its full emotional significance. Do not let your “micro-managing" spoil an otherwise fun, happy, beautiful time. Take moments to step back and enjoy what is happening around you – smell the air, catch the view, focus on your partner-to-be, enjoy a flower. At a certain point, you have to let go, let others manage and entrust your wedding to the people you have chosen well to make you day flow beautifully.... Back to Top of Page
